Teach the Teachers! Professional Development: Connecting STEAM Concepts with STEM-based Activities
Visiting Artist Yvonne Manipon
These workshops are designed to help classroom teachers integrate visual arts into lessons on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). By adding a visual arts component to lessons, we’ll help you go from STEM to STEAM! Participants will enjoy hands-on activities and will walk away with new ideas and lessons that are ready to go right into the classroom. Ideal for classroom teachers of preschool and elementary age students, these lessons can be applied to Common Core English Language Arts and Humanities and Math and Science standards. Note: Enrollment is limited and pre-registration is required! Preference is given to teachers who work in a classroom setting.
Mandala Sculpture: Engineering and Technology Connections #1339
Sunday, 1 day
June 26 / 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
This workshop will help students understand the impact that trash has on our lives. Participants will create an interactive, site-specific sculpture that links “ephemeral” Navajo sand paintings and Tibetan sand mandalas. The class will discuss and examine how these works of art are created and destroyed to symbolize the transitory nature of material life and how trash affects our own lives and the environment.
Supply Fee: $10
