Visiting Artist Gordon "Umi" Kai

Students will learn to make a single piece fishhook out of bone. These fishhooks are designed to be functional rather than decorative. Umi of Kai Kompany will guide you through the use of hand tools and shaping of the hook as well as making cordage. Prerequisite: Haumana (students) must be strong enough to pull a coping saw (small hand saw) to cut the hard beef bone. Note: One bone blank will be provided and additional blanks will be available in class for $5 each.
