CLOSING DATE FOR PURCHASE OF KALUANUI EXTENDED
In a joint press release, David Cole, President and CEO of Maui Land & Pineapple Company and John W. Hoxie, Jr., Chairman, Board of Directors of Hui No’eau Visual Arts Center, announced that the two organizations have agreed to extend the closing date for purchase of the upcountry Baldwin Estate, Kaluanui. According to Cole, “The extension will allow ML&P and the Marcus/Zand family adequate time to complete their negotiations for a suitable alternate property. We are pleased to be working in a constructive, collaborative manner with the Hui as it nears the conclusion of its significant fundraising effort.”
According to Hoxie, “the Hui remains focused on purchasing the property and is prepared to close at any time, but the Hui also appreciates the extended deadline, as it will provide additional time to collect on pledges and to move closer to its $5 million goal for purchase and capitalization funds. Community, foundation, and corporate support for the fundraising efforts of the Hui have been very strong.”
As of May 6, the “Save the Hui – Buy Kaluanui” Campaign has raised $4,536,756.26 in cash and pledges from more than
1,100 gifts. Never in the history of Maui have so many given so much in such a short period of time – just 3 months. Still pending is a $250,000 challenge that will be available if 100% of the Hui’s membership participates at some level.
