Contemporary Portrait Painting with a Limited Palette #1427
Saturday – Monday, 3 days
November 19 – 21 / 9:00 am – 3:00 pm

Students of all levels will enjoy learning to paint a portrait in oils using a live model! Visiting Artist Kristy Gordon will guide students in using a simplified color palette. By restricting colors on the palette, participants will find success by developing the ability to perceive tonal values and control temperature variations while maintaining color harmony. A live, clothed model will provide a single, sustained pose throughout the workshop. Each day will include a demonstration, discussion, and individual instruction at the easel. Through discussions and handouts, Kristy will address many important topics including the stages to developing a painting, proportion and structure of the face and features, value, edges, and modeling with color temperature. The beginner will learn fundamental principles such as how to mix colors and render form while the more advanced student will discover how to take their work to the next level and achieve the finish that they desire.

Tuition: $250 ($313 nonmember)
