Leading Causes of Death in America: Recent Graphic Work by Sandow Birk

Exhibition Dates: March 19 - April 23, 2006

Hui No'eau Visual Arts Center will present a comprehensive exhibition of Los Angeles painter Sandow Birk.  Birk has risen to prominence on the California scene for his fictitious epic series of paintings In Smog and Thunder, The Civil War of the Californias, as well as recently created prints, drawings and books based on Dante's Divine Comedy.  The exhibition will highlight paintings and prints from Birk's career as well as the prints, working proofs and drawings from Leading Causes of Death in America, the recent print project published at the Hui by HuiPress Publications.

Join us at the Hui for an evening in the galleries with Sandow Birk. Paul and Liz Janes-Brown will read excerpts from the Divine Comedy, the subject of Birk's parallel text and illustration project, beginning at 6 pm and a gallery talk with the artist will follow at 7 pm.
