Friday & Saturday, 2 days
March 3 & 4 / 8:00 am – 2:00 pm
Get ready to enjoy the beauty of the Hui’s historic Kaluanui Estate and Upcountry Maui as you experiment with soft pastel as a medium for plein air painting. Students will discover the different types of soft pastel available as well as their various attributes and applications. Participants will also use different pastel papers in combination with a variety of techniques to construct a plein air pastel painting. Michael will demonstrate techniques before students complete a painting on location. The class will focus on composition, values, and color. This is a wonderful opportunity to study and enjoy the architecture of the Hui’s original home, originally built in 1917 (now 100 years old!), as well as the beautiful grounds and historic outbuildings.
Tuition: $125 ($156 nonmember)
Supply Fee (optional): $25 If you would like for the Hui to provide you with basic supplies, please register at least two weeks prior to the start date of class. Easels may be borrowed for an additional $10.
