The Challenges of Painting Watercolors from Photos #1429 (Sat & Sun)

Visiting Artist Roger Whitlock
Saturday & Sunday, 2 days
December 3 & 4 / 9:00 am – 3:00 pm

Many watercolor artists use photographs when painting—and some of us may even prefer to paint from photos in the controlled environment of the studio. Yet our photographs can exercise a certain tyranny over us, leading us to copy them, rather than to create works of art inspired by them. In this workshop, students will explore the challenges of painting from photos. Visiting Artist Roger Whitlock will focus on guiding students through the painting of landscapes, cityscapes, or street scenes. The instructor will supply photographs; students are also invited to bring their own. Prerequisite: Intermediate Watercolor or equivalent experience
Tuition: $155 ($194 nonmember)
A list of supplies is posted online at under the class description.
