Summer, Hui No‘eau Style

June 28, 2012Summer is here! And what a colorful summer it has been here at Hui No’eau. We have met some fascinating new patrons as a result of this year’s media-based exhibition, Reflections: Contemporary Glass Art in Hawai’i (Congratulations to Barclay Hill, winner of the Juror’s Choice Award, who received a $500 cash prize from the Maui Glass Artists Association for his piece “Daylight”!) and more than 100 new keiki through our SOLD OUT Camp Kaluanui summer arts program. On June 9, "Reflections" artists Shiori Abe, Paul Chryst, Anita Laviola, Karuna Santoro & Kim Treloar offered a free walk-thru of the featured exhibition and on June 20 Visiting Artist (and long-time Hui friend) Casey Neumann presented "A Reason Rewoven: An Exploration of Process and Product in Visual Art" as part of our free lecture series. Our summer series of Visiting Artist workshops have launched, featuring Sally French (Kauai, Painting), Jennifer Almodova (San Francisco, Painting), Roger Whitlock (Oahu, Painting), Ian Tremewen (Australia, Painting), Casey Neumann (TX, Printmaking), and Denny Tillman (NYC, Photography), as have 30 summer foundation classes by our all-star team of Hui teaching artists. Be sure to check out our July Artist-in-Residence program, featuring mural artist Shira Walinsky, who will be offering many opportunities for community involvement. What will you create?
