December at the Hui

November 29, 2012Happy Hui Holidays to one and all! Here’s a glimpse at what to expect at Hui No’eau over the next few weeks:

Now through December 24: Hui Holidays, a celebrated Maui tradition featuring a transformed Kaluanui through the eyes of designer/ choreographer Andre Morissette & friends plus countless original items in our Artists’ Boutique (arts, crafts, hand-made wreaths, and other great loot!)

Saturday, December 1: FREE Meet-the-Artists of Hui Holidays event at the Hui, featuring Marianne Klaus (ceramics), Kimberly Treloar (glass) and Jim Smith (glass/ wood): a trifecta of awesomeness! Stop by the Hui anytime from 10 am – 4 pm to feast your eyes on the beautiful spread and to talk story with these great people.

December 5 & 6: Intermediate Digital Photography with teaching artist Aubrey Hord, taking her “Beginner’s Guide” photography classes to the next level with aperture, shutter speed controls and shooting scenarios to help dial in skills, make correct exposures, and ensure you are a successful photographer in any lighting condition. (Ps, this year’s media-based exhibition is PHOTOGRAPHY-themed…get ready!)

December 9: Parent and Child Art Day with Rochelle Mendoza, featuring a Shakespeare-inspired puppet making activity and theatrical story-telling adventure. Scholarships always available here http://surveymonkey.com/s/X5NT3VF.

December 16: Quick Jewelry with teaching artist Luana Coonen, exploring methods for creating hoop earrings, bangle bracelets, and stacking rings in sterling silver with simple steps, tools and techniques like forming, sanding, soldering, sizing, hammering, and polishing. We love Luana!

December 17 - 28: Camp Kaluanui's Winter Break 2012 (ages 5 – 12), offering programs that stretch minds, exercise imaginations, and introduce new idea-generating techniques through super fun projects like Jolly Gingerbread Houses, Reconstructed Greeting Card Ornaments, Theater Arts, Block Print Wrapping Paper, Snowflake Ornaments, and more!

Friday, December 28: Receiving Day for the Hui No‘eau 2013 Annual Juried Exhibition – our strongest competition of the year! Works in all media will be accepted for consideration by guest juror Lauren C. Faulkner, Owner / Art Consultant at the Fine Art Associates on Oahu. What will you CREATE?
