WHY GIVE?

Creativity

“The Hui is a valuable asset for Maui’s creative community. There is power in bringing creatives together to work, as we inspire and encourage each other in what can otherwise be a very solitary pursuit. It’s hard to put a dollar value on it, so I’ll simply say it’s priceless.”

-Participant in the Open Studio Program

education & Outreach

“It was so much fun to see them sculpt and paint and see some of the natural talents come up! Even if they didn't feel like it's ‘their thing’ it was a healing and fun day away from school to learn important ‘āina-based information and art skills. We're so grateful you found and covered our transportation. It really made us feel wanted and we appreciate the opportunity after such a hard year.”

- Teacher, Lahaina Intermediate School, Field Trip Participants

community & culture

“Ka Ulana ‘Ie Maui Youth Cohort at Hui No‘eau was a healing journey for our student junior practitioners. We noticed over time how their weaving made a positive impact in their personal lives and in their families. It was such a blessing to hear from their parents how proud they were of their students and how this weaving experience helped their children open up socially and emotionally. We hope to offer another Ulana ʻIe Junior cohort at the Hui in the near future that will be longer in duration to allow deeper dives into our culture, ʻike kūpuna that will allow the students to connect with their culture, build stronger interpersonal relationships with others, and grow and mature to be positive contributing members in our communities.”
