Art Affair, Maui Open Studios & Winterim

February 28, 2011In February, we celebrated the Hui’s 20th annual Art Affair, Maui’s preeminent art auction and social event held at Hui No‘eau’s historic Kaluanui Estate. Themed this year as “The Black & White Ball,” highlights included the presentation of the Board of Directors Recognition Award to Jim & Honey Bun Haynes and Hui Angel Award to Joe & Bev Gannon. The “Raise the Paddle” live auction raised much-needed funds for Hui youth programs as well as those supporting the 2011 Artist in Residence program with world-renowned "Stickwork" sculptor Patrick Dougherty. Later that month, the Hui participated in the first ever Maui Open Studios event, engaging new audiences and leveraging our open studio program as a workshop for both emerging and established Maui artists. We also hosted Seabury Hall’s “Winterim” session, providing youth aged 12-18 with intensive arts learning experiences in jewelry, ceramics, plein air painting and silkscreen printmaking. Seabury teacher Gayle Martelles shared, “thank you for the fine support & many thanks to the 4 great teachers & to you & the Hui for all the special little extras that made our week so magical!”
